Who We Are

Our Story

Imagine An Athlete (IAA) was founded March of 2019 under the former name Student Athlete Leadership Academy. In the year of 2020 the founders Brandon Gulley and Terrance Brownlee Jr revisited the name as they have refined the organization to support mental health as well as entrepreneurial and financial education in addition to athletic training. The journey each athlete traverses is different from another.

We have created a program that encourages a safe and healthy environment, interactive virtual learning, and preparedness both in and outside of the sports arena. Our team of professionals, coaches, and trainers have a goal to reach; to serve our student-athletes  athletic training, mental health support, financial literacy, trade and vocational college information, education for both the athlete and their family, in addition to professional advancement.

Meet the founders

BRANDON GULLEY

PRESIDENT

Former Annapolis High School football player and Co-founder of
Imagine An Athlete, Brandon Gulley, has a mission of helping young students-athletes use sports as an avenue to help promote mental and physical health. In his senior year of high school, Gulley received the Anne Arundel County Player of the year award and was selected Maryland Consensus All-State Team as
a linebacker. After the passing of his mother at age nine and brother at sixteen, Gulley used football as a means of coping with the situation. The importance of being a part of a community became very clear to him when his teammates attended the funeral for the passing of his brother.

Continuing his education and athletic career at Dean Junior
College, he was nominated team Defensive MVP in 2002 and graduated with an associate’s degree in Sports Management in 2003. He then went on to Morgan State University and graduated in 2006 with a BA in Sociology. He coached at Annapolis High School from 2008 to 2014 and has served in many educational roles in the past 13 years. Currently, Gulley is a crisis interventionist at the Phoenix Academy in Anne Arundel County. After receiving his master's degree from Goucher College in Arts of Teaching Secondary/Special Education in 2019, he is actively pursing a certification as a Pupil Personnel Worker.

Currently resides in Anne Arundel County with wife and two children.

TERRANCE BROWNLEE JR.

VICE PRESIDENT

Terrance, a life time learner and athlete born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland where he grew up a dual athlete participating in football and basketball. In high school Terrance excelled at football; his athletic ability and knowledge of the game afforded him the opportunity to play Division 1AA football during his college years at Towson University where he graduated with a B.S. in Political Science and M.S. in Cyber Security and Technology from University of Maryland University College. Terrance is a Police Officer for the Anne Arundel County Police Department and is committed to serving his community through his career, his church, and as a mentor for several different organizations. Terrance believes education is the key to success. But he would not have been successful if not for his mentors, athletics, and hard work.  Terrance, co-founder of Imagine an Athlete; he is strong in stature and strong in his belief that “he can do all things through God.”
